Well...my baby boy was baptized today! How is it possible that he is already 8? I swear it was just yesterday that he was a chubby, happy baby. I never thought that time could go so fast.
It was a great day! We arranged it so that Henry and my neice,Tori , were baptized the same day. It made it a very fun and special day for both of them.
Oscar and Brittany both spoke, which was special for a couple reasons. 1st, they are both the oldest siblings in each family. Brittany is Tori's oldest sibling, and Oscar is Henry's oldest sibling. 2nd, Brittany has spoken at my other 2 kids baptism so it has become somewhat of a tradition, just one more Britt! :)
My Aunt Betsy happened to be in town visiting so it was so nice to have her there for the baptisms. For Henry, the most important person there was Grandpa. How special to have his great-grandpa and best friend present. We love Grandpa so much, he is such a blessing in our lives.
Henry is such a great kid! He has a great desire to do what is right, so much so that he is a little hard on himself. He is imaginative and funny. He really keeps us laughing. He is also so sweet and senstive. He is going to make some girl a great husband someday. For now, he is ours. We get to enjoy his bright presense in our home. We get to play and laugh with him. And I plan on enjoying each moment, for the years pass far too quickly.
Sometimes I wish I could pause time; freeze the wonderful moments I share with my children, but if I did that I would miss out on the moments to come. So I will savour and enjoy each moment that I can, I fear I have missed too many already! Thank goodness for memories though.
My grandmother had Alzheimer's for many years before she passed away. I think about that sometimes, how one of the most precious things we have was slipping away from her, her memories. It has been almost a year since she passed, when I think of her now I imagine that she is enjoying all the memories that she had forgotten.
It is interesting that Henry's 2 best friends in this life, so far, were my grandparents. Not many children would state that their best friends were 2 old people, but he did and does so proudly. Even when my Grandma was so difficult to handle, he would talk, argue, and laugh with her. When we would run out of patience this sweet kid would talk to her. He told her like it was, and she could take it from him. When she repeated a story for the 20th time, he would tell her, and she would just smile and shake her head and say "I'm just getting old." If we tried that she would insist that she had never told that story before, so you just learn to enjoy a story 20 times :)
So, Henry, we are so happy you are part of our family and we are so happy that you wanted to get baptized and that you have such a desire to choose the right! We love you!
Only one more to go! That's crazy, keep up the great job, your kids are very impressive!
